Line 15 (Silver) (Portuguese: Linha 15–Prata) is one of the six lines that make up the São Paulo Metro and one of the thirteen lines that make up the Metropolitan Rail Transportation Network. It is South America’s first mass-transit monorail and is the first system in the world to use the Bombardier Innovia Monorail 300.

When completed it will be the largest and highest capacity monorail system in the Americas and second worldwide only to the Chongqing Monorail. The first section, from Vila Prudente to Oratório, opened on 30 August 2014, initially running 10 AM–3 PM on weekends only. As of 26 October 2016, the line is operational from 4:40 AM–12 AM. The line has a free connection to Line 2-Green on Vila Prudente station and future connection to CPTM Line 10-Turquoise on Ipiranga station.

Built using completely driverless technology, the line is currently 14.6 km (9.1 mi) long and has eleven stations in the stretch between Vila Prudente and Jardim Colonial. When complete, it will be approximately 27 kilometres (17 mi) long and have eighteen stations, beginning at Ipiranga and ending at the future Hospital Cidade Tiradentes. The proposed completion of the full line is projected to be beyond 2022.

The MMRDA Mumbai Monorail is a monorail line in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, built as part of a major expansion of public transport in the city. The project is operated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The monorail runs from Chembur in the city’s eastern suburbs to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk at Mahalaxmi in south Mumbai, effectively connecting the city’s harbour line, central line and western line.

The monorail, as its name suggests, runs on a narrow, single track. A lightweight structure allows the trains to navigate sharp turns in congested urban areas. The Mumbai monorail is the first in India since the Kundala Valley Railways and the Patiala State Monorail Trainways were closed in the 1920s.

The system began commercial operation in 2014, but has achieved only 10% of the estimated ridership. Over budget, with an “unnecessary” route poorly connected to other modes of transport and suffering from poor maintenance, the system has widely been described as a “failure”. As of 2025, it remains the only operating monorail in India.

The KL Monorail Line is the only operational monorail system in Malaysia. Operated as part of the Rapid KL system by Rapid Rail, a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia, it is one of the components of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System. The line is numbered 8 and coloured light green on official transit maps.

Due to improper infrastructure planning and the inadequate size of the rolling stock (to transport a large number of passengers in or out of the downtown Kuala Lumpur area during rush hour), the KL Monorail is commonly cited as the most unsatisfactory rail line of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System.

    2-car ALWEG rolling stock
The first trains used on the KL Monorail line were 10 sets of permanently coupled 2-car trains of a similar design to the Seattle Center Monorail’s ALWEG trains. Each monorail train could accommodate 158 passengers during regular operations. The monorail carriages themselves were constructed by Scomi Rail, a Malaysian monorail manufacturer, at the Scomi Rail plant in Rawang, which also featured its own tracks for monorail train tests. In June 2017, the monorail was operated solely using 6 sets of 2-car trains. As of December 2022, all 2-car trains had been fully withdrawn from service.

    4-car Scomi SUTRA rolling stock
The KL Monorail subsequently began upgrading its rolling stock to brand-new, 4-car trains. These were also manufactured by Scomi, this time to the company’s in-house-developed SUTRA design, which was also ordered by the Mumbai Monorail line in India. Each of these trains can accommodate 430 passengers per trip, compared with 213 passengers for the 2-car trains. The new trains are equipped with four closed-circuit television cameras and space for wheelchairs and strollers.
